Does Life Keep Itself In Balance?

Ain’t life strange, the way good things tend to happen all at once. On the flip-side, things tend to all go wrong at once as well.

I’m not the only one who’s observed this life-pattern… I'm sure you've heard the saying: when it rains, it pours!

Of course, it could all just be psychological. Maybe it seems like one bad situation is following another, because it’s more noticeable when you’re already stressed about something else.

Strangely though, what I’ve found is that things tend to get a lot worse the more you actively let things bother you.

Of course, we’re all human so you are going to have a few "woe is me" days - them days when you’re feeling angry, disappointed, resentful and drained at a particular sh*t life situation.

But if you’re able to stop it from overwhelming you, you usually find that as you come to terms with a situation, start to get over it and keep things moving in a positive direction, those bad situations tend to naturally work themselves out.

It’s like a positive mind-set invites more positivity.

Coming from a self-confessed pessimist, I know it’s easier said than done to not let things drag you down. But you have to try your hardest to rise above certain situations and not fall to pieces. Because with a more positive outlook or approach, things are more likely to improve or at the very least, prevent the situation from getting worse.

To get all philosophical, and at the risk of sounding like a hippy/new ager, I see it as the universe balancing itself out. Dark and light. Life and death. Yin and yang.

This is why I could never be a flat-out agnostic, there are just too many strange and random coincidences in life. It’s also why I’m a big believer that whatever you put out in the universe will come back around.

It’s like a gut-feeling I have, and my instincts about certain things are usually spot-on.

I don’t know if you could call it a superstition or just life experience, but another example is when something good is going on in your life and then as soon as you tell people about it, it all goes to sh*t. Almost as though you jinxed it.

This theory might make absolutely no sense from a physics or logical standpoint, but nevertheless that’s my belief system and what gets me through trying times. That, and I’ve experienced rough patches before so I know it’ll pass. It also helps to know that in the grand scheme of things, few things are that life-altering.

Losing your home, losing a child, losing a limb...these are earth-shattering things. But when it comes to jobs, relationships, friendships etc things really do have a habit of working themselves out. If you can handle the setback and work around it, usually a better opportunity presents itself in the future.

Of course, if you’re the person who’s making life difficult for others…well like I said, the universe has a habit of balancing itself out.
